Wonder

Wonder

Here is the first part of Wonder's story as told by his rescuers Hzi and Fox:

Wonder was abandoned by his person or family as a young pup to live as a stray on the streets and alleys of Taiwan until finally he was hit by a vehicle and left to die. Until this day, we don't know how he survived after the accident, but he lived long enough to catch the attention of a small factory owner. The owner took pity on him, and placed the now paralyzed Wonder dog in a cardboard box. It was in this box, we first met Wonder, he was covered in his own waste matter when we took off the mosquito net on top of his "cardboard box" home. He softly whined and cried to us.

Our names are Hzi and Fox, and we are both teachers that use our own spare time and money to help rescue strays from the streets and alleys of Taiwan. We asked the factory owner about the "puppy in the box", and were told that he was a stray, paralyzed and most likely would not live long.

The factory owner had not taken Wonder to the vet, and simply gave him a new cardboard box when his waste matter piled up. We looked at each other, and decided we must take the puppy. How could we not? Fox took the puppy into his own apartment and, with the help of our friend Crystal, we took the puppy to 3 vets within the first few days of rescuing him.

All three vets condemned him to a life of dragging his hind legs around—never to run, to play, or to walk again. Knowing what we know about the chances of paralyzed dogs getting adopted in Taiwan, we decided to give him lots of good food, a clean bed, give him our love, and then let him sleep forever peacefully.

We gave him a name. We called him Wonder.
