BellestarYou can tell just by looking at this picture that Bellestar, an American Shetland Pony, is mischievous and trouble in general. She was born approx in 1994 and has lived at BrightHaven since 2000. Her history is a sad one: She was purchased by a horse trainer for her obnoxious daughter as a riding pony. The child was mean to Belle and consequently was thrown off several times. Both child and mother tried to beat Bellestar into submission - unsuccessfully. They were successful in turning this fun-loving being into a skittish, scared and distrusting one. Thankfully she was rescued from her horrible situation and brought to BrightHaven. Now you would never know what she has been through; she loves people, she is curious as can be and very smart. She did manage to open the gates a couple of times! In 2005 she suffered with a mild founder but came out the crisis situation immediately with the help of her wonderful homeopathic veterinarian, Dr. Laurie Lofton. She now has to wear a grazing muzzle when the grass is green in order to avoid her getting sick again. But not to worry; to her it's almost a sport to get as many blades of grass through the hole in the bottom of her muzzle as equinely possible! |
