Gail Pope
Founder & Board President
Gail is the heart and visionary behind BrightHaven. Since founding the organization in 1990 with her late husband Richard, Gail has guided its evolution from a physical sanctuary to a world-respected voice in animal hospice and holistic care. Her international consultation practice, pioneering work in hospice-supported natural death, and co-founding role in the Animal Hospice Group (AHG) have helped shape the field. Gail is also a prolific author, educator, and deeply respected thought leader.
Karen Wylie, MEd, EdD, CAHP
Board Director & Director of BrightHaven Caregiver Academy
Karen brings a wealth of experience as a lifelong educator, consultant, and animal caregiver. She directs the BrightHaven Caregiver Academy (BCA), which supports pet parents with resources, courses, and a vibrant membership community. Karen also serves as Executive Director of the Animal Hospice Group (AHG), supporting education and certification for professionals in the field. She co-hosts the "Peace of Mind for Pet Parents" podcast with Gail.
Susan Hoffman
Chief Financial Officer & Animal Rescue Coordinator
Susan leads BrightHaven's rescue program, specializing in saving senior and special needs cats in Northern California. A passionate animal advocate with decades of rescue experience, Susan combines her work in the legal field with managing foster placements and rehabilitation for the most vulnerable animals.
Kirstie Franceschi
Board Secretary
Kirstie contributes extensive business and development expertise to the BrightHaven board. As Development and Property Manager for Codding Enterprises, she brings practical insight and leadership to organizational strategy and growth.
Carol Howe Hulse
Education Program Manager
Carol is the creative force behind much of BrightHaven's written educational content. A writer, photographer, animal Reiki practitioner, and co-author of "GRATEFUL for Animals," Carol plays a key role in helping share BrightHaven's Menu for Healing and animal hospice wisdom with the world.

Board Director
A.J. is a seasoned attorney with a strong background in public service and legal advocacy. She brings strategic and legal guidance to BrightHaven’s board and is a long-time supporter of the organization’s mission.
